Most Widely Spoken Languages Worldwide

Language is perhaps the most important function of the human body – it allows us to get sustenance as a child, it allows us to get virtually anything we want as an adult, and it allows us many hours of entertainment through literature, radio, music, and films. This list (in order of least to most spoken) summarizes the most important languages in use today.

1.Chinese(中文)

Numbers vary widely — Ethnologue puts the number of native speakers at almost 1.2 billion native speakers, roughly a billion of whom speak Mandarin — but there is no doubt of its clout. If you wish to learn a language that one in six people in the world speaks, this is the one for you. A tonal language with pictograms, it will certainly keep you busy.the official language in Mainland

2.Spanish(Español)

Spanish Speaking Countries On Map
If we are only to look at native speakers, Spanish has its nose in front of English with about 400 million speakers. If you want a language that will open up whole continents to you, Spanish is your best bet. As with all the languages on this list, the politics of language and associated identity are highly disputed: ask Catalan or Quechua speakers if Spanish is their local tongue and you will get a very different answer. But it is certainly the primary language of most of South and Central America, Spain, and, ahem, large swathes of the US. Mexico contains the largest population of Spanish speakers.

3.English

English Speaking Countries On World
If you’re reading this article you may be one of the 360 million-odd native English speakers, or one of the half a billion people who speak it as a second language. This indicates the remarkable success of English as the lingua franca of business, travel and international relations. The relative ease with which English can be picked up (especially compared with Chinese) and the pervasive soft power of US culture mean that English will continue to dominate the world stage. For many who live in abject poverty, it is the ticket to, and symbol of, a better life.

4.Hindi/Urdu(हिन्दी/اردو)

Urdu/Hindi Speaking Countries On World Map
India has 23 official languages, with Hindi/Urdu chief among them. Whether this is one language, Hindustani, or two dialects, is still fiercely contested. Spoken mainly in northern India and parts of Pakistan, Hindi uses Devanagari script while Urdu uses Persian notation. At the time of writing, the debate about its role in Indian education and society has once again flared up: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a Hindu nationalist, is seeking to have Hindi displace English in the southern Indian states as the primary language of official communication and education, a strategy that has met with resistance. If you ever travel in the Indian subcontinent, a little Hindi will get you a long way. Plus, this is the language that gave us shampoo, jungle, jodhpurs, and bungalow — what’s not to love?

5.Arabic(العربية)

Arabic Speaking Countries On World Map
Recent numbers put Arabic at around 250 million native speakers. But this is another instance of numbers not telling the full tale: Arabic, like Chinese, is so vastly different in its respective dialects as to be effectively a number of languages, grouped as one for the sake of convenience. Modern Standard Arabic is a primarily written form, closely related to the Classical Arabic of the Quran. However, the spoken forms of Arabic in, say, Oman and Morocco are so different than a couple of philosophy professors from these countries might be able to discuss the finer points of the ancient texts while struggling to order lunch. The official language in 26 countries (ISO), spoken (in various dialects) in the Middle East, North Africa, Arabian Peninsula, and other Islamic countries.

6.Portuguese(português)

Portuguese Speaking Countries On World Map
This is another language whose reach owes much to its colonial past. Avid Portuguese traders and conquerors brought their language to 215 million native speakers, in 9 countries (ISO), spoken in 34 countries (E) Brazil, Goa, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Macau. They also brought the ability to do wonderful things with a soccer ball.

7.Bengali(বাঙালি)

Bengali Speaking Countries On World Map
Admit it: you didn’t expect Bengali to be on this list. The Partition of Bengal by the British in 1947 divided (mainly Hindu) West Bengal, now part of India, from its (mainly Muslim) counterpart East Bengal, now Bangladesh. It is the language of Kolkata, of the Andaman Islands, of fabulous sweets, and of 170-odd million Bangladeshis, many of whom are extremely vulnerable to climate change; by the next century, the population is projected to double while 15% of the land area is expected to disappear below rising seas.

8.Russian(русский)

Russian Speaking Countries On World Map
With roughly 170 million native speakers as of 2010, Russian is the eighth most spoken language in the world. Famed for its inscrutable grammar and quite lovely Cyrillic script, it remains one of the six languages spoken in the UN, and produced the likes of Dostoyevsky, Nabokov, Chekhov, Goyal, Tolstoy and Pushkin. language in 4 countries (ISO), spoken in 31 countries (E).

9.Japanese(日本の)

Japanese Speaking Countries On World Map
Almost all of the 130 million native Japanese speakers live in Japan — certainly the most highly geographically concentrated of all the languages on this list. Japanese boasts two distinct writing systems, hiragana and katakana, as well making extensive use of Chinese Kanji characters. The largest groups living outside Japan can be found in the US, the Philippines, and Brazil. official language in Japan and spoken in Japanese emigrant communities around the world.

10.Punjabi(ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੇ/پنجابی)

Punjabi Speaking Countries On World Map
With varying estimates of around 100 million native speakers, last spot on the list goes to… Punjabi! (Sorry, German — you got dumped a few years back.) Spoken in large tracts of India and Pakistan, the Punjab was sliced in two by the British when they left, and millions of people were forced to abandon their homes, businesses and families. But they’re slowly taking their revenge, Bollywood-style: Punjabi songs now account for 50% of chart-toppers.

Top 10 Food That Keeps You Healthy

10 Foods you should eat every day

Imagine a choice of foods that were tasty, nutritious and good for your health - i.e. they helped you maintain healthy body weight, improved your overall mood, and reduced your risk of developing diseases.

Apples

Apples

Apples are an excellent source of antioxidants, which combat free radicals. Free radicals are damaging substances generated in the body that cause undesirable changes and are involved in the aging process and some diseases.
Some animal studies have found that an antioxidant found in apples (polyphenols) might extend lifespans.
Researchers at The Florida State University said that apples are a "miracle fruit".
In their study, the investigators found that older women who starting a regime of eating apples daily experienced a 23 percent drop in levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and a 4% increase in good cholesterol (HDL) after just six months.

Citrus

Available year-round, citrus fruits dish up cancer-fighting flavonoids that lower your odds of lung, stomach, colon, and breast cancers. Make the most of your fruit with these.
Grapefruit

Grapefruit

When volunteers ate half a grapefruit before every meal in a University of Arizona study, they shaved an inch off their waists, thanks to naringenin, which experts say may help burn fat.
Eggs

Eggs

A source of high-quality protein, eggs might give your meal more staying power too. A recent study found that when people ate a scrambled-egg-and-toast breakfast, they felt more satisfied—and ate less at lunch—than when they ate a bagel (that supplied the same number of calories) another day. Even if you’re watching your cholesterol, a daily egg can likely fit into your eating plans. Egg yolks contain lutein and zeaxanthin—two antioxidants that help keep eyes healthy. In fact, mounting research links lutein and zeaxanthin with reduced risk for age-related mauler degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in people over 50. And lutein also may help to shield your skin from UV damage.
Beans

Beans

Beans are a good plant-based source of iron (up to 13 mg per 3/4 cup), a mineral that transports oxygen from your lungs to the cells in your body. Because your body can’t absorb the form of iron in plant-based foods as well as it can the form found in beef and poultry, pair beans with a vitamin C-rich food, such as sweet potatoes or lemon juice, to boost your iron absorption. Beans also boast fiber: 1/2 cup of cooked navy beans packs a whopping 7 grams of fiber, while the same amount of lentils and kidney beans provide 8 and 6 grams, respectively. Much of this fiber is the soluble kind that benefits blood cholesterol levels.
Nuts

Nuts

Nuts are rich sources of heart-healthy unsaturated fats. Studies of Seventh-Day Adventists (a religious denomination that emphasizes healthy living and a vegetarian diet) show that those who eat nuts add, on average, an extra two and a half years to their lives. Walnuts may be the spotlight-stealers, though, with their high level of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid that’s been linked to heart health and improved mood. Walnuts’ high mono- and polyunsaturated-fat content also helps reduce total and “bad” LDL cholesterol levels while maintaining healthy levels of “good” HDL cholesterol.
Sweet Potatoes

Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are so brilliantly orange thanks to their alpha and beta carotene. The body converts these compounds into the active form of vitamin A, which helps keep your eyes, bones and immune system healthy. These photochemical also operate as antioxidants, sweeping up disease-promoting free radicals. One medium sweet potato—or about 1/2 cup—provides nearly four times the recommended daily value of vitamin A, plus some vitamin C and B6, potassium, manganese, and lutein and zeaxanthin, prompting the Center for Science in the Public Interest to call it one of the most nutritious vegetables in the land.
Oily fish

Oily fish

Examples of oily fish include salmon, trout, mackerel, herring, sardines, and anchovies.
These types of fish have oil in their tissues and around the gut. Their lean fillets contain up to 30% oil, specifically, omega-3 fatty acids. These oils are known to provide benefits for the heart, as well as the nervous system.
Oily fish are also known to provide benefits for patients with inflammatory conditions, such as arthritis.
Oily fish also contain vitamins A and D.
Scientists at UCLA's Jonson Comprehensive Cancer Center found that prostate cancer progression was significantly slowed when patients went on a low-fat diet with fish oil supplements.

Wheat

Wheat

Wheat is the part of wheat that germinates to grow into a plant - the embryo of the seed. Germ, along with bran, is commonly a by-product of the milling; when cereals are refined, the germ and bran are often milled out.
Wheat is high in several vital nutrients, such as vitamin E, folic acid (folate), thiamin, zinc, magnesium, phosphorus, as well as fatty alcohols and essential fatty acids.
Wheat germ is also a good source of fiber.

Yogurt

Yogurt

Yogurt is a great source of bone-building calcium, but its real strength lies in live beneficial bacteria, know as probiotics, that keep down the growth of harmful bacteria in your gut. Eating more yogurt could help with inflammatory bowel disease, ulcers, urinary tract infections and vaginal yeast infections.
How much? ¾ of a cup (175 ml) of low-fat or fat-free yogurt with live cultures is one serving of milk/dairy products.

Fruits with Amazing Health Benefits Heart Healthy, Weight Loss Friendly and More

When it comes to improving health and bodily function, eating right is just as important as exercise. One of the key components of any effective diet is plenty of fruit, but not all fruits are created equal. Below are some of the most powerful “super fruits” that can help anyone feel better, look younger, and even fight off certain diseases.

1.Blueberries:
Blueberries
Blueberries have long been known for their high antioxidant content, which keeps cells healthy and fights off signs of aging. Not only that, but blueberries also contain compounds which can improve memory and brain function. Finally, the nutrients in blueberries are linked to a faster metabolism and lowered risk of urinary tract infections.

2.Grapes

Grapes
Like the wine it is made out of, red and purple grapes contain the rare antioxidant resveratrol, which is linked to a healthier heart. The seeds of grapes have also been shown in laboratory settings to slow the harmful effects of Alzheimer’s disease and fight certain cancer cells. As a side benefit, grapes contain malic acid, which naturally breaks down stains on teeth.

3.Acai Berries

Acai Berries
These Brazilian berries have some of the highest antioxidant levels of any known fruit, making them an excellent addition to any diet. They are also comparatively high in protein and essential fatty acids, which can improve the appearance of hair, skin, and nails.
Adding these amazing fruits to any diet is an excellent way to ensure that the body is receiving enough of the important vitamins and minerals it requires to function at maximum efficiency. Experts recommend eating at least three servings of fruit each day, and choosing from the options above will complement a longer, healthier, and more active lifestyle.

4.Avocado

Avocado

This super fruit is packed with healthy monounsaturated fat and essential fatty acids that the human body can’t produce on its own. Avocado consumption can help to reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. As well, the healthy fats contribute to lowered rates of LDL cholesterol.

5.Kiwi

Kiwi

Kiwis contain almost twice the vitamin C of oranges by weight, and roughly as much potassium as a banana. The skin of a kiwi is very high in fiber, which has been shown to aid with digestive problems, including irritable bowel syndrome. The nutrients in kiwis can help prevent damage to eyesight, including macular degeneration and cataracts, and the high antioxidant content of this fruit keeps the body looking and feeling younger.

6.Papaya

Papaya

Like kiwis, papayas contain high levels of vitamin C, which can help the body prevent common illnesses before symptoms appear. They also contain plenty of vitamins A and E, folate–which helps prevent anemia and repairs DNA–and a substance known as papain, which promotes healthy digestion. Adding papayas to your diet can help prevent heart disease and colon cancer.

7.Grapefruit

Grapefruit

Grapefruits are one of the better fruit options when it comes to maintaining healthy heart function. This fruit is high in vitamin C and the antioxidant lycopene and has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. Keep in mind when buying grapefruits that the darker the fruit, the more antioxidants it contains.

8.Apples

Apples

An apple a day may, in fact, keep the doctor away — especially the cardiologist. When women ages 45 to 65 ate around a cup of dried apples each day for a year, they experienced on average a 23 percent drop in “bad” LDL cholesterol, according to a Florida State University study. What’s more, the women’s “good” HDL cholesterol increased by about 4 percent, and they also lost an average of 3.3 pounds. The heart-healthy benefit may stem from the apples’ pectin (a type of fiber) and polyphenols (a group of antioxidants). Other research has found that apples also protect against asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), possibly due to their high level of flavonoid antioxidants.

9.Strawberries

Strawberries

Slicing strawberries into your morning cereal or yogurt may cut your risk of esophageal cancer, according to a small study from the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center in Columbus and researchers in China (it was partly funded by the California Strawberry Commission). When 36 people with precancerous esophageal lesions ate two ounces of freeze-dried strawberries daily for six months, 80 percent saw a decrease in the severity of the lesions. The researchers aren’t sure which of the vitamins, minerals, or other nutrients in the berries is responsible, but they plan to investigate the possibility that strawberries may be valuable as an add-on or alternative treatment to cancer-treating drugs. Strawberries also take care of your ticker. A recent study from the University of California, Davis, found that regular strawberry consumption can counteract the inflammatory and blood clotting effects of a high-fat, high-carbohydrate meal, potentially decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

10.Guava

Guava

Did you know: Guavas are one of the richest sources of vitamin C? It’s true. Guavas contain 4 times the vitamin C content present in oranges. Vitamin C helps improve immunity and protects you against common infections and pathogens.
